If you have ever wondered what heaven looks like, simply head on up to Rocky Top Farm with Emily and Dave–they can show you. I got to spend a couple weekends out there when I was living in Nova Scotia, and it was all the things you’d hope it would be. They introduced me to their helper/pet Peggy the horse who was the cutest (but maybe a bit confused), there were pigs and chickens, lakes, bonfires, gardens and basically all the things I have ever dreamt were good. The real truth is, though, that actually, Rocky Top is just a farm. It is Emily and Dave themselves, governed by their selflessly generous nature, easygoing disposition and the right balance of hard work and hedonism, that makes whatever roof you visit them under seem so heavenly.
Recently my friends have relocated to a little cottage in the centre of town for the winter months, and have sent me some photos of their adorable second home to share with you. The farm is still running while Dave continues to sell his delicious organically grown garlic, but for a blowy winter in the Nova Scotian countryside, I couldn’t imagine a sweeter place to call ones home.
P.S. If you are around the Halifax/Wolfville area, Dave’s Garlic is available for purchase at 10$/pound. Click on any of these words for more information, questions about orders, shipments or stories about escaped pigs (maybe).

Adam O and I worked at American Apparel together in Halifax. That is how I met him. I only have one memory of us working together: In this memory, he’s standing by the socks with a clipboard in his hands (AA requires its employees to do inventory of the entire store every Sunday, which is crazy considering they seem to endorse shoplifting. I’m going to assume that it’s just their way of giving their staff a chance to reconnect.) Anyways, in this memory Adam is looking around, up from his clipboard and back down again, and though it seemed like he was taking in whatever ridiculous thing was happening in this ridiculous place, he was somewhere else–in a real, real way. That’s sort of how I’ve always pictured Adam; as this guy who is somewhere and everywhere. Like a ghost.
Today, despite evident and often vocalized affection for each other, Adam is, to me, just as much a mystery as ever. That being said wherever Adam is, I know that I am welcome. I don’t know if that’s a consequence of his personality or of our particular connection, but isn’t that just the best and truest definition of home? Wouldn’t you wish that on every person? I would.
In reality, Adam is amazingly kind and driven and decidedly not a ghost. He also is actually somewhere, namely Brooklyn NY in a ridiculously beautiful loft towards which I feel (what I believe to be) the appropriate amount of jealousy. Adam’s place has been exceptionally captured by himself in the following photographs and will likely cause you to hate your home and/or life choices. Enjoy!

Oh, Hello. Friend, I’m so sorry I have not been around. Full disclosure: I’ve been in a Twi-hole. Yes, this is embarrassing but occasionally I become so enraptured in the Twilight franchise that I lose touch with reality. It’s a real thing.
The first time I heard about Twilight was the first time I watched it. I knew nothing about the phenomenon going in, and though for the first 15 minutes of the movie I laughed along with my friends at the cheesy dialogue and predictable plot lines, I could slowly feel myself being overcome. As soon as RPatz’s pale brooding face filled the screen, I was hooked. I may or may not have at one point uttered the words “I want all of him inside me” very loudly in the theatre–I actually can’t remember, the whole thing feels like a dream. The point is, this all happened, and for better or for worse my heart still flutters at the thought of their undying (real life) love.
In the past few months that love has died, been resurrected and now the following abode plays host to it. Honestly, I’m a little disappointed. It’s kind of tacky, no? I guess it doesn’t matter what your house looks like when your boyfriend is regularly licking your armpits (that’s hot, I’m almost positive). I want to say other quippy things but life is too short for us regular mortals to be quipping all day long, neglecting all gainful employment. Mama’s gotta work.

CMP is your girlfriend’s girlfriend. This summer we were staying at a friend’s cottage and confessed almost in tandem that we didn’t know what to do with ourselves because we weren’t the ones hosting. So we got drunk.
I’ve always felt that Caitlin likes being a girl as much as I do, and I’ve never felt self-conscious gushing to her at length about table settings or divulging intimate facts about my vagina, even when I barely knew her. Like any good hostess, Caitlin makes you feel at home. For example, if someone were to be violently and inappropriately ill in her washroom one morning, she’d probably say something like “Girl, we’ve all been there”, and then make you some coffee. Caitlin is an Actress and Waitress, can be found on twitter @DehydratedFox and this is where she lives:
I found my place through a friend of a friend in the Terroni family. I literally accosted the girl’s best friend at the Dakota Tavern & was like, “I hear Natalie’s giving up her apartment, can I have her number?”
After 2 weeks of moving in, I decided it was a good idea to throw a birthday slash house-warming party. It was so packed, and sweaty, Jessie Brooks from Tartina bakery (www.tartina.com) made cupcakes, I made Aperol Spritzes, the Wild Turkey was flowing.Michael, the sweetest guy you’ll ever meet, started beat-boxing on the porch & someone else started stomping on the steps. My neighbours came out & didn’t even need to say anything. Their faces were like, ‘Please. Let us sleep’. The fact that they didn’t call the cops on us seemed like a good sign.
Best//Worst: The mouldings. The high ceilings. The shelf above my bed. The massive closet. The neighbourhood (Ossington & Dundas)//The lack of natural light. Somedays it breaks my heart. Oh, to have a south-facing apartment!
It’s cheesy, but I love my bed. It’s so comfortable! When I moved in, I thought I was going to invest in a new bed but Natalie sold me hers & 2 sweet chairs for a good price. What can I say? I love sleeping…San Pellegrino Pompelmo. Come home from work, add ice & gin. Heaven. My best friend Meagan Albrechtson, who’s a writer & just started an online magazine (www.lolita-magazine.com), and I are addicted to this drink. It’s like permanent summer.

I am looking for new apartments/homes/spaces to feature in the blog. I am interested in capturing and sharing the spaces that we make for ourselves, without pretension or outward agenda. I like to see where you’re living, and I think other people do too. It doesn’t matter what camera you have or if your home is messy or undecorated, just snap the things you love and want to share. If you are interested in participating you can let me know at firstname.lastname@example.org.
